Studio versus natural light????

When I decided that I was going to put my whole heart and soul into photography and really make it happen for me as a career a few months ago, I couldn't decide what kind of photographer I wanted to be. By "kind" I mean, did I want to focus on studio work, or natural light.
So many photographers in the industry say that you should choose one, and make that your style.
But I just can't choose!
Last weekend I attended a workshop where we worked completely with studio lighting. It was amazing, I love the images I captured and I can't wait to put what I learned to use in my home studio.

Then today I did a maternity shoot with all natural light, and it was amazing and I am in love with the images I captured indoors and out in the snow.
I don't know... do I have to choose?

__________
Friends of mine, an amazing and beautiful (shy in-front of the camera) couple finally let me capture a few shots of their first pregnancy. They are due in just over one week, and have no idea the sex of the baby. My guess is girl. We will see...

I love this quilt! The colours are amazing. My new favourite picture.
Yup... due in just over a week.

Good luck with everything guys and thanks again for being such great models for me!!

Workshop fun!

Too funny!! Tonia at Delicate Impressions posted these photos on her blog of us photographer chicks. Hilarious, and so much fun!!
The photo above is Ashley (beautiful expecting mom) followed by Stefanyie, Myself, Annette, Ashley, Tonia, Andrea and Tracy.

Here we are again, gathered around baby Broxton. His mommy did a great job taking this one... future photographer???
If you are interested in doing a maternity and newborn photography workshop I highly recommend Tonia Lariviere. I got to spend a weekend talking with fellow photographers and came away with so much more studio photography knowledge and confidence.

Maternity Workshop

I spent this weekend attending my first photography workshop.
The workshop was hosted by Tonia of Delicate Impressions, and it was so much fun.
Myself and six other photographers joined Tonia at her studio on Saturday and Sunday to learn her secrets for maternity and newborn photography... lighting, posing, and some photoshop techniques.
The workshop started on Saturday with two beautiful pregnant women, and us gals had a blast capturing the following images.
First we did photos with Katie, who was such an easy-going model.

Tonia showed us the trick for this "wind" shot...love it!

Ashley modelled for us in the afternoon, with her perfect little baby bump.

Gorgeous!!!

And then on Sunday we moved on to two of the cutest baby boys EVER!! Both of these babies were so wonderful, and their parents were so patient to let seven of us take turns taking photos.
Little Broxton was an amazing sleeper, and didn't leave Tonia with any laundry...Whaaaat??

And he had great cheeks:)

Beautiful mom!

And our last model was little Nolan. He was so sweet and tiny.

WooHoo! I learned how to do this, I can't wait to go searching for some driftwood!

One of my favs of the day.

Thank you so much Tonia for hosting this workshop. It was amazing and I learned SOOOO MUCH!!!

Family Day Fun

Family Day was awesome, as it is every year. A much needed long-weekend during a dreary time of year.

My husband and I have gone skiing for Family Day weekend the past two years (without our children... I know, not really the point of the day) so this year we spent the entire day with our little ones.
We started with tobogganing, a visit with grandma, and cuddles by the fire place.

After our little guy had his nap, it was time for dinner and then we decided to end the day with a hike in the woods.

We bundled ourselves up, I grabbed my camera and we were on our way.

It was the perfect ending to a great day.

Here is a shot I grabbed of Blake pulling the kids on their little sled. Aubrey likes to drag her hand and collect snow, and then eat it. What a kid:)
My little man. This kid cracks me up, he loves the snow... and even when he lands in it face first he gets up and asks for "more!"

I hope that however you spent Family Day, you managed to find a little time to enjoy the people in your life.

Cheers,
Katie

Sonya and Jeff Married!!

Yesterday one of my very best friends in the world married her soulmate.
Sonya and Jeff tied the knot at the Burlington Golf and Country Club, and it was the perfect setting for a gorgeous winter wedding.
I have known Sonya since we were in grade 10. She arrived at our high school fresh-faced and smiling. Automatically I was drawn to her, and knew that we would have the kind of friendship that would stand the test of time.
She is truly a beautiful and wonderful person. So intelligent and so lovely, the kind of friend a person is blessed to have.
Sonya and Jeff are such a strong couple. They have each others' backs, no matter what.
Jeff is perfect. He is supportive and funny, and lives life to the fullest.
It was so incredible to watch them say their vows yesterday, pledging their love to one another for all of time. As the clock struck midnight during the reception, there was no better way to celebrate Valentine's Day... Watching two people, who are so obviously meant to be with each other, start their lives together.

Although I wasn't there as the official photographer, (the amazing Andrea Husted of Splash Photography had the honour) I did manage to sneak in a few pics of Sonya before the ceremony and then throughout the evening.

Sonya is so beautiful, and I loved her jewellery for the day. Perfectly elegant.
Mmmmm, hot chocolate mix for favours, and the cake was fantastic!!
Jeff and Sonya were made for each other.
The first dance is my favourite part of a wedding.
Sonya and her dad, such a special moment.

Jeff and Sonya, congratulations!!
