Getting ready

It has been 10 months since I decided to start my own photography business, and I couldn't be more thrilled with how things have been going.
It was scary to put myself out there, and basically provide my services for free to anyone who would let me photograph them.
In the back of my mind it was always "am I good enough?" "what if they completely hate their photos?" and so on with the doubt.
Over the past ten months I have become a little more confident, but I continue to get nervous before each and every photo shoot. But I have been so lucky to have the greatest clients, and so far I have had the honour of working with the most beautiful, fun, laid back and lovely brides.
So I have a few reasons for titling this post Getting ready.
I am getting ready for a lot of changes. Both in my life and with my business.
Some of these are big changes, and some are very small but are things I have been wanting to do for a while now and I am now getting ready to go for it.
Firstly, for those of you who know me you will know that I am expecting my third child this December. We are so excited to be adding to our family!! It is going to be such an adventure and I am so happy.
But this means that I will be taking a break from booking any weddings or large family shoots from mid-October and on. I am going to continue doing maternity, newborn, and sessions for children under the age of one in my studio until the end of October. For moms who are due in late November and December, I can pass along the names of some great newborn photographers.
I'll be back at it, in full swing, by the end of February with studio work, and then kicking off the wedding season in April!
Secondly, I am going to be getting ready to make some changes in my studio. Some new lighting, backdrops, and I will only be photographing maternity, newborn and children in the studio.
I have found that for family photos and anyone older than the age of about two, the studio doesn't cut it for me. I want to capture more personality. Running through fields, playing hopscotch, just more candid interaction and beautiful natural light.
And thirdly, I am getting ready for fall. Already I am getting booked for family photo sessions. If you are interested in capturing beautiful family photos in September or early October don't hesitate to book a photo session, I only have a few weekends left.
And since every post is better with photos, here are two from last night.

Aubrey playing in the wheat fields.
Little Brant, he just melts my heart.

Happy summer everyone!
Cheers,
Katie Dawson

Married: Candice + Scott

As I walked into Candice's mom and dad's home I knew immediately that this day was going to be fun.
Candice was dressed in her gorgeous gown and readily anticipating the photos. Scott was dressed and looking at his beautiful wife in her gown, for the second time.
Scott and Candice have already been married for almost two months.
They had a ceremony at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas in May. This day was going to be about celebrating their union, and throwing a great party for those who couldn't come to Vegas.
We started with photos at Candice's mom and dad's house. Then we went to Knollwood Golf and Country Club in Ancaster.
This was my first time shooting at Kollwood, and I wasn't disappointed. The grounds are beautiful, and the way the sun was setting was divine.
Here are just a few pics from Candice and Scott's Ontario reception.

Newborn: Ella {Hagersville Newborn Photographer}

I'm loving all the babies that I've been meeting lately.
I got to capture Ella's mom's pregnancy, and it is always so nice to see parents come back with their new baby.
We were patient and waited for Ella to get into a deep sleep so we could do this pose.

Newborn: Morgan

Little Morgan gave us the best little kissy lip faces for her entire photo shoot. She came to my studio at 11 days, and although she wasn't sleepy, she was a happy baby and did great.
Here is one of her little kissy face, so cute.
